At Kingsway, premiers Perth-Bayswater narrowly defeated Wanneroo 17-13 in a close, hard game in wet conditions for the inaugural Bill Watt Cup match between the two northern clubs. Wanneroo opened with a penalty but just before the break Perth-Bayswater scored a try to lock Brent Murphy, converted by lock Jock Stanley, to lead 7-3 at half time.
Stanley added a penalty to open the second half but Wanneroo replied with a converted try to draw even at 10-10. Perth-Bayswater broke the deadlock with a try to wing Fabian Broughton, converted by Stanley. Wanneroo added a penalty and closed the match strongly on attack but their midfield lacked penetration and they couldn’t finish.
