Perth-Bayswater first grade lost lost to University 21-11 as their winless year continued, but a few promising signs are emerging. Lock Jake Buist scored the try and flyhalf Ethan Reid kicked two penalty goals.
The game was targeted as an opportunity to chalk up the first win but coach Rex George said that his main aim was working on the team's structure.
"We've broken it right down, gone through the videos, we've simplified things and put in a defensive pattern that fits our team," Rex said.
"Against University, we got in front, we shut down a lot of their attack with basic defensive systems, but then we dropped out of those systems and went back to our old habits.
"Our goal is to be a competitive team. Our back line are all under 20 but that's the best we can produce at the moment."
In other games, second grade narrowly lost to Uni 29-27, third grade lost to Uni 21-14, fourth grade lost by their largest margin in many years, 51-14 to Uni, Under 20s lost to Uni 31-15 and it was left to Under 18s to chalk up the club's sole victory for the day, 22-5 over Mandurah.
