Perth-Bayswater first grade continued to show promise against top opposition but remained winless with a 27-14 loss to Kalamunda at Hartfield. Flanker Jaskon Achilles scored a try, halfback Mark Hill kicked a penalty goal and flyhalf Ethan Reid kicked two penalty goals.
In other games, second grade narrowly defeated Kalamunda 19-17, third grade lost to Kalamunda 48-3, fourth grade defeated Kalamunda 18-3, Under 20s thrashed Curtin 73-0, and Under 18s defeated Kalamunda 26-5.
After losing the last two games in the final minutes it was Perth-Bayswater second grade who turned the tables on Kalamunda to score with the last play of the game to take the win 19-17.
The weather was wet, windy and ugly and the opening stanza was punctuated by dropped ball as we came to terms with the conditions. The game was played tight in; through our big forward pack and driven forward by some big crash ball from inside centre Mac Heke. The first half ended with the score at 10-7 to Kalamunda after Ash Murphy went over with a powerful forward move and James Rameka converted.
The second half continued to be a torrid affair with big hits coming in from the second row pair of Simon Uili and Aterea Tawhai andexcellent work all over the field from openside flanker Peter Matthews. Flyhalf Dylan Parsons scored and James Rameka converted to move the score to 14-10 in our favour, and with the clock running down we were edging towards a win. Unfortunately with about 40 seconds left on the clock Kalamunda scored and we were 17-14 down and time once again about to run out. Captain Tim Mcloughlin and number eight Cale McCort rallied the guys and in true Baysie style with no time left on the clock attacked the Kalamunda line. After multiple phases, punctuated with penalties given away by Kalamunda and some impressive forward drives, fullback Cameron Lockett hit the line at speed and blew past several tackles to cross for the try. This capped an amazing effort by all 22 players which epitomised the Baysie “Pride and Passion”.
Back of the day was Mac Heke, forward of the day was Cale McCort and Man of the Match was Peter Matthews.
