SUMMARY 1999

FIRST GRADE

Seventh in Competition. Garry Lane's first grade experienced a puzzling year. Lacking key firepower and suffering continuing injuries, they struggled to develop any sort of pattern and cohesion. On the rare occasions they clicked they showed their potential -- such as defeating the second top team, Cottesloe -- but at other times they plunged to embarrassing defeats against bottom sides.

SECOND GRADE

Second in Competition. FINALISTS. Pat McLoughlin's second grade competed steadily all year, rising to second spot on the competition table and winning any number of close games with last minute come-backs based on great team spirit and commitment. They lost both their finals heavily but deserve every praise for a worthy year of rugby.

THIRD GRADE

Fifth in Competition. Barry Guzder's third grade looked like the team to beat on some occasions and were unlucky to lose a couple of key games that cost them a place in the four.

FOURTH GRADE

Second in Competition. MAJOR PREMIERS. Andy Keen's fourth grade started slowly with scratch teams but as the season progressed, Andy gathered together a quality team that finished the season with eighteen games on the trot undefeated. They stormed into the Grand Final and won a hard game in trying circumstances. Congraulations Andy and fourth grade.

FIFTH GRADE

Third in Competition. SEMI-FINALISTS. Filthy Fifths, again enjoying the inspirational leadership of Cliff Richard, were up and down like the proverbial whore's drawers all year, but when they could field their best team they proved very hard to stop. Stumbling into the finals on a cunning combination of alcohol and rigorous training, they suffered a one point defeat despite the help of an elite support team that included a young lady with remarakably little clothing.

COLTS

Third in Competition. FINALISTS. A total turnaround for colts this year, with a young and talented team under the very able guidance of coach Darrell Taylor. Colts experienced a few hiccups during a very competitive season but producing the goods when it counted to finish third, along the way proving that no team was out of their reach. They won a gritty semi-final but tripped up in an error-prone preliminary final. Most of the team will still be together next year and will defintely be the team to beat in 2000. Full marks to Darrell and the lads for a top season.
