SUMMARY 2003
FIRST GRADE Coach: Jamie Hohapata Manager: Michael Whitney FIRST GRADE made progress in 2003, gathering new talent to a solid core of young players and increasingly threatening the big guns throughout the season. After a disappointing loss to Kalamunda to open the season, Perth-Bayswater won three on the trot, including a deafeat of Palmyra, but then conceded three to the top end of the comp. They finished off the first half of the season with a win over Uni and a loss to Cottesloe -- but two losses, to Soaks and Cott, were by only two points. The second round was virtually a mirror image of the first, except for the results against Kalamunda and Palmyra being reversed, and perhaps the most astonishing game of recent years -- a 34-32 win over Nedlands after trailling 27-0 at half time. The round also included a narrow two point loss to premiers Wests. The team finished well outside the top four but still in fifth position, a creditable result for this young team. With an ounce of luck in some of the close games they could easily have made the finals. 5th in competition. Points for: 433 Points against: 394
SECOND GRADE Coach: Sam McCourt Manager: ? The club did not enjoy good depth in 2003, and econd grade had a poor year as a result. They won just one game in the first round, over ARKs, and two in the second round to finish 7th in an 8 team competition. A tough year for Sam and the boys but a good effort in difficult circumstances. 7th in competition. Points for - 232 Points against - 508
THIRD GRADE Coach: Craig Robertson Manager: Arnie Veteran hooker Craig Robertson stepped into the breach for thirds in 2003. but the team struggled with depth throughout the season. They won two games in the first half of the competition and two in the second, although there were a couple of close losses as well. Another worthy effort against the odds to finish sixth in an eight team comp. 6th in competition Points for - 240 Points against - 489
FIFTH GRADE Coaches: ? Manager: ? A poor year by the stellar standards normally enjoyed by this crack team of peak conditioned athletes, with 5 wins and a draw in the first round. They improved in the second round with six wins but it was not enough to crack the finals in a very tough 13 team comp. 5th in competition Points for - 427 Points against - 177
COLTS Coach: Wally Murphy Manager: Murray Lee-Tuck Wally Murphy guided a slightly older team of colts this year and started well with three wins on the trot. They won two more games in the first round and lost two by two points or less. They fell off the pace in the second round to record just two wins, leaving them in the middle of the table. A reasonable season that came close to being very competitive. 6th from 11 in competition Points for - 230 Points against - 177
