SUMMARY 2004
PREMIER GRADE Coach: Jamie Hohapata Manager: Jim Coyle PREMIER GRADE made a good start to the 2004 competition, winning three of their first four games, but lost the next four on the trot -- although none of them were by big scores. In the second round they slumped to win just two games. The team possessed a solid, unpretentious playing lineup capable of quality rugby and deserved better results in a largely even competition. 7th in competition. Points for: 291 Points against: 370
RESERVE GRADE: FINALISTS 2004 Coach: Steve Wharerau Manager: Henry An improvement in playing depth in 2004 and a positive team attitude boosted Rau's Reserve Grade up the competition, losing just two games in the first round. They lost the same two games in the second round and went into the finals in a healthy third place. Unfortunately they were scuppered in the minor semi-final by apalling refereeing incompetence when the match's winning try was disallowed. Bad luck for Rau and the boys after a very good season. 3rd in competition. Points for - 436 Points against - 194
A GRADE Coach: Kevin McKeagg Manager: - It was thirds' turn for a torrid time in 2004. The team battled gamely to one win and one draw in the first round but upped their results to three wins in the second round. They finished a long way from the finals in an unwieldy, mis-matched 15 team comp -- it appears Rugby WA have learnt nothing from past mistakes. 13th in competition Points for - 187 Points against - 477
B GRADE: FINALISTS 2004 Manager: Grunter Another fine year by the club's crack team of ageing but good-looking drinkers, sorry, players. Undeterred by four losing games in the first round of a huge, dodgy 16 team comp, they improved to lose just three in the second round and went into the five-team finals by a clear margin. Unfortunately bureaucracy proved their hardest opponent of the season when their winning minor semi-final result was reversed after beady-eyed officials found that a long-standing B Grade front rower had reserved up the grades one time too many, trying to do the right thing by the club and the sport. 5th in competition Points for - 477 Points against - 216
UNDER 19 Coach: Wally Murphy Manager: - Colts again found the going tough in 2004 but deserve recognition for continuing to field a team and produce young players for the club in difficult circumstances. They scored just three wins in the first round and two in the second round but gave a good account of themselves throughout. Full marks to Wally and the boys for effort. 9th in competition Points for - 139 Points against - 388
WOMEN: PREMIERS 2004 Coaches: Mike Te Aute and Gary Rutene Manager: - The girls did the club proud in 2004 and played some magnificent rugby to be unbeaten on the field during the season, although they did drop a couple of games by forfeit due to fluctuating player numbers. They won their Grand Final in fine style and captured the club's only flag for the year. Back Stacy Kilmister also picked up the State Women's Best and Fairest Award. Congratulations to Mike, Gary and the girls. 1st in competition Points for - 727 Points against - 72
