SUMMARY 2007
FIRST GRADE PREMIERS 2007 Coach: John Taylor Assistant coach: Lex Taylor Managers: Barry Dorset and Steve McCormick First grade improved steadily from the previous year under JT's expert leadership, developing a dominant pack supported by a solid back line. The silly losses of previous years were conspicuous by their absence and Perth finished the first round on track for the finals despite losses to Kalamunda, Nedlands and Associates. In the second round they again had three losses, winning against Soaks but losing to the hugely improved Palmyra, and again losing to Kalamunda and Neddies, although by narrow margins. Perth went into the finals in fourth place but showed nerves of steel to tough out a one point win over Kalamunda in the minor semi-final and then unexpectedly thrashed Palmyra in the preliminary final. Perth went into the grand final as long-shot outsiders against minor premiers Nedlands who had been in imperious form all year, but with mercurial flyhalf Roki Tipuna in sparkling form and the black pack dominating possession, the team showed huge composure to defend a two point lead against a continuous onslaught in the final ten minutes for a gloriously improbable victory. Huge kudos to JT, Lex and the boys for massive fortitude leading to an historic triumph. Points for: 497 Points against: 217 4th in 10 team competition Minor semi-final: Perth 11 Kalamunda 10 Preliminary final: Perth 41 Palmyra 18 Grand final: Perth 15 Nedlands 13
SECOND GRADE: FINALISTS 2007 Coach: Ray Jones Assistant coach: Dave Watene Manager: Tash Watene Seconds also had an improved year and mirrored first grade in the first round, losing three games to sit at fourth in the competition. They backed up with a draw and three losses in the second round for a place in the minor semi-final, however a solid loss to Soaks in the semi after two similar results in the competition finished seconds' season. Ray, Dave and the team are to be congratulated for a year of considerable success and a worthy role in supporting first grade on their way to a premiership. 4th in competition. Points for - 379 Points against - 353 4th in 10 team competition Minor semi-final: Perth 20 Kalamunda 30
THIRD GRADE coach: Mark Rere Manager: Kevin Thompson The depth in the top grades didn't filter down to thirds this year, the team recording just two wins in the first round. Further pain followed with just one win in the second round but the team did manage to avoid the wooden spoon. Thanks to Mark, Kevin and the boys for doing the hard yards for the club. 9th in 10 team competition Points for - 162 Points against - 578
FIFTH GRADE: FINALISTS 2007 Coach: Trevor Waru Manager: Grant Hutson Fabulous Fifths again showed the marvellous benefits of combining huge experience with abundant alcohol under the inspired leadership of Trevor The Maori Maestro Waru. The team lost just two games in the first round and even defeated the Immortal Legends of Nedlands Fifth Grade. Three second round losses dropped the team to fourth going into the finals and a narrow loss to ARKs in the minor semi-final finished the season prematurely, which was a disappointment because there was still serious drinking to be done. Congratulations to Trev, Grunter and the heroes of Filthy Fifths for yet another great year. 4th in a 9 team competition Points for - 448 Points against - 190 Minor semi-final: Perth 3 ARKs 5.
UNDER 19 Div One: PREMIERS 2007 Colts Black Coach: Peter Simpkins Colts Black Assistant Coaches: Ray Mills and Peter Roberts Colts Black Managers: Len Russell and Michelle Matthews Numbers exploded in the under 19 division in 2007, the club fielding two teams, black and white. Under 19 Black started slowly with four losses in the first round but improved to lose just three games in the second round. The results were enough to see them through to third place and a position in the minor semi-final, where they disposed of fourth-placed Associates. A close win over Nedlands in the preliminary final put Under 19 black through to the grand final, where a hard fought draw saw them share the premiership with minor premiers Joondalup. Congratulations to Peter, Ray and Peter for a great achievement and developing outstanding potential for the future of the club. 3rd in 8 team competition. Points for - 225 Points against - 59 Minor semi-final: Perth 35 Associates 18 Preliminary final: Perth 22 Nedlands 20 Grand final: Perth 14 Joondalup 14
UNDER 19 Div Two: FINALISTS 2007 Colts White Coaches: Mike TeAute and Carl Cherrington Colts White Manager: Rangimaria TeAute Under 19 white had an even slower start to their season than their Division one team-mates, losing five first round games. But the team bounced back to record just three losses in the second round and secure fourth place going into the finals. They scored a good win over third-placed ARKs in the minor semi-final but went down narrowly to Nedlands in the preliminary final. Congratulations to Mike and Carl for a successful year, and with both under 19 teams in the finals the future looks bright for the club. 4th in 9 team competition Points for - 177 Points against - 102 Minor semi-final: Perth 31 ARKs 19 Preliminary final: Perth 14 Nedlands Gold 18
