Perth Bayswater Rugby Union Club is pleased to announce the following senior coaching appointments for the upcoming 2023 season and beyond.

Head Coach – Premier Grade

After an exhaustive search attracting significant interest from right across the globe, and an extremely competitive process, the club is pleased to announce Cale McCort as our Premier Grade Head Coach for 2023. Having spent the past two seasons as a Senior Assistant Coach working with Johan Bardoul and Sam Beard, Cale is well placed to build on the foundations they have laid, and has communicated to the club a clear and strong vision for the direction of our Premier Grade squad over the coming seasons.

Assistant Coaches – Premier Grade

Joining Cale for the 2023 season as Assistant Coach is Jimmy Mason, the club’s 2022 Coach of the Year. Jimmy has a proven track record at the club of identifying and developing playing talent, guiding our Colts to a Minor Premiership in 2020 and a Grand Final in 2022 as Head Coach, and was an Assistant Coach to our 2019 Colts Premiership winning side. Jimmy also found success with our 2021 Reserve Grade side, leading them to the Championship Division final.

Also joining the set-up for 2023 as an Assistant is Jake Buist. The beating heart of Perth Bayswater Rugby Union Club’s Premier Grade over the best part of the past decade. Jake will be making the formal transition into coaching next season. Jake brings vast playing and leadership experience with him, having represented the club across a record 174 Premier Grade appearances since his 2015 debut, most coming as Captain.

Director of Coaching

Joining the club from 2023 onwards in the new role of Director of Coaching is Andy Cole. Andy has been coaching rugby in Western Australia for over 30 years now, and has won numerous premierships at both senior and junior levels within the WA Rugby and PSA competitions along the journey. Andy has a tremendous passion and knowledge for the for the game, and is a vital addition to our coaching team, bringing with him a wealth of experience, tactical and technical knowledge to support and mentor our senior coaching team. His focus will be on building a strong, sustainable club capable of achieving success now and into the future.

Over his career Andy has prided himself on being able to create opportunities for players to successfully transition into elite, representative and professional rugby programs. He has achieved this through building strong relationships with players, treating them as individuals, providing them with tailored advice, creating a learning environment, and fostering a positive culture to cultivate excellence. Andy has strong connections with Rugby WA and Western Force personnel, built over many years, and will look to harness this to provide value and benefits back to our club.

The club is proud to have been able to provide these well-earned opportunities to our internally developed coaching talent, and we warmly welcome Andy to ‘The Burrow’ at Pat O’Hara Reserve. We look forward to supporting our new coaching team as they look to build on a successful 2022 with further success on and off the field in 2023.
